A few weeks ago I was asked by my husband to paleeease do something with my ever-growing stack of magazines. Well, I couldn’t just send them to be recycled without one last look through them. When I found this photo in the Dec/Jan 2010 House Beautiful, I had one of those ah-haaa moments.
You see, we have the perfect spot at the landing of the basement steps to add our own little library space! Let me show you.
Now, pretend you don’t see all of our junk there and imagine it with wooden shelves to the ceiling, maybe a mirror hung in front of the books for some light reflection, and a few art pieces on the shelves, too.
Here is the other wall as you turn right to head down the stairs. See…I already use it as a bookshelf, I just need to make it official and functional. I could maybe even attach one of those nifty rolling ladders! How cool would that be???
I love to read silly old love stories, most of all my beloved Twilight series, which by the way stands all on its own on my pretty red hutch in my room…
I also have quite the collection of home decor books that would look super fabulous in the “library.”
So tell me, have you ever had an ah haaa moment and found a great space in your place?
If you have created a great space out of an odd place in your home, let me know. I would love to show it off for you. You never know, someone else may have that exact space, and you could be their inspiration!

I love this idea! Believe it or not, I could use a little more space. Oh -wait . . . maybe get I should rid of some of the things I haven't used in years, but felt a need to move 800 miles, would be a better option!
Love the idea of a library space in the stairs. What a perfect solution for space that is never used and usually overlooked. I think it's a fabulous idea.
Thanks so much for stopping by and your gracious comments about my roosters. I do enjoy them. I would love to see your copper one. How neat is that. Hope you are having a super day. Hugs, Marty
I can imagine it and it would be wonderful. I love surrounding myself in books. It is one of my favorite design elements!

Amiable fill someone in on and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Gratefulness you as your information.
This is so gorgeous... and ooooh those BEAMS!! I can't think of any 'hidden treasure spaces' in any of the homes we've had and made-over. But we have found many hidden treasure items... Like a funky old metal laundry sink in our basement. That has been moved upstairs to the supposed 'bedroom' (I'd have thought closet a better designation!) on our main floor that is now our laundry room. Did the corner around it in subway tiles... I will send you a photo as soon as we get around to painting the walls in there... So many things done... so few that are 'after-picture-ready'. Just about an hour ago, we found a 'treasure' - not hidden but on the side of the road with a for sales sign on it - in the form of a rusted old square wood stove that is just the thing to put our new, compact barbecue on. Wanted something funky and not flammable... and there it was! I'm on a major 'rusted metal' and 'grey wood' kick. But the BEST treasure... was finding you and your blog Misti... Already used several of your inspirations!
