Divine Kitchen Details

Kitchens are so easy to fall in love with.

So many details to choose from, and so many options to play with to get it just YOUR style.

In this post I will be pointing out some fabulous details. For instance, this kitchen has the most beautiful black cabinetry. Look at the trim work in the glass upper cabinet doors; this makes them more like china cabinets than plain old kitchen cabinets. Let’s face it, they had to have something a bit more elegant next to that stove hood. Did you notice the spice racks made into the hood? I also love the different tile patterns used on the backsplash. My favorite, subway tile, is used under the majority of the space and under the stove hood they have created a diamond pattern. That pot-filler is really special too. But only consider adding one if you will actually use it. They are very costly to install.

Did you also notice, that is not a table there to the left, they raised the island a few inches higher to create the effect of a table and added taller, and GORGEOUS bar stools. I love how elegant, yet cozy this kitchen is. Oh, and check out the chandelier! FAB.

BHG Kitchen & Bath Ideas

Talk about details! In order to make this room appear taller they have painted the ceiling boards white and have taken the white plates all the way up. Also, they kept the color of the door the same as the walls to make the room appear larger. When the paint color stops at the doors, it breaks up the room. Having the vertical set of white frames also draws your eyes up! Love this kitchen…

Have I ever confessed my love of a booth in the kitchen? That’s another post for sure!

I love this pale green color and how they kept some doors off and some with glass doors. Love the open shelf over the sink for collectibles too. There is also bead board inside the open cabinet and on the island to tie the room together. Did you notice the subway tile? I do love subway tile….

Country Living

Wow! Look at the open window over this cook top. Using BIG features is the way to go in this open room. Anything smaller would get lost! See how they have used similar slate on the floor and the wall around the stove…nice.

And this…there is woodwork from floor to ceiling, and it is gorgeous! Keeping it white opens up the room, and gives it a clean, crisp feeling. They have balanced the darker woods on the countertop and floors. It’s beautiful! What I would give for that sink….

Have I ever confessed my love of a black-and-white floor? This floor is actually painted wood slats. Right up my alley.

The restaurant style island is not my “usual” style, but I would LOVE to cook in this kitchen. Look at the light fixtures, they are perfect here with the giant stainless steel countertop. This looks like easy breezy clean up.

Country Living

Now, I am sorry if I offend…but I could NOT cook in this kitchen. I am not a fan of pink anything. This sort of reminds me of an old laundry mat. If you are reading this and it is your kitchen, I sincerely apologize. I could see baking cupcakes here; with sprinkles, and cherries, but not gourmet cooking.

kit12

Country Living

To me this is one of the most beautiful kitchens ever. I go from one end of the spectrum to the other, literally. My favorite is at the end of the post. We are getting there. Be patient.

I love how crisp this room is. No drapes, and the only color is from natural items. It is elegant, whimsical, and warm all at the same time.

Country Living

Is this not the coolest idea ever? Taking out a drawer and installing closet rod brackets with a simple dowel rod would make this possible. Who couldn’t do this little project? Love it!

House Beautiful

This kitchen is extra fabulous, really. It is in my top 10 kitchens that I have EVER seen. I am not crazy about the fabric choice on the stools, but it works well with the toile on the drapes, and it really pops off of the green cabinetry.

House Beautiful

This is Misti’s most favorite kitchen EVER.

When I saw these pictures my mouth fell open, and hit the table. I have never seen a kitchen that had so much of what I would want.

I love the mix of stained cabinets, the yellow island, and the large white built-in off to the side. The drawer pulls are stunning, the range is to die for, and the accessories could not be more perfect. I love how they have large, heavy oil paintings attached to the UNBELIEVABLE walls of crackling cement, broken bricks, and stone.

kit11

Country Living

Did you notice the details on the ceiling? There is more texture in this room than I have ever seen. I am blown AWAY. They have added copper pots as well adding to the excitement of this room.

This is the ultimate kitchen space for me. The pot rack is charming, as is the black chalkboard in the corner; love the heavy gold frame. They have balanced the white cupboard with the plate rack full of large white dishes.

This is just a phenomenal kitchen. If you, by chance, are the designer of this room, I WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU.

Thanks for letting me swoon over this room. The minute I saw it I knew I had to blog about it.

I would love to know your favorite style of kitchen.

What would make you want to linger all day- because you want to, not because you have to?

I will be posting this over at Julia’s place for Hooked on Fridays. Come on over with me and let’s see what everyone else is hooked on.

Quick and Easy Burlap Wall Art

IMG_2744

Hi everybody! Sorry, I have been the worst blogger lately. Fitting in visiting time has been very tough. You are all so much fun to hang out with and yet, I just haven’t had the time. Please forgive me! If you are new here thanks for stopping by, take your time and stay awhile…

I had just a few minutes today to complete a project for my bathroom. There was an oil painting on this wall over the tub, but to prevent it from fading it was moved over to our guest bathroom. Texture without color is just what I wanted to fill this empty space.

While shopping the basement I found an old canvas, a bag full of burlap, scrounged around for some upholstery tacks, and decided on the perfect piece to make an original piece of art.

First I painted over the old canvas. The burlap was a large weave, so the canvas colors were showing through. I suggest painting  it to match the burlap or go black like I did here.

IMG_2740

Then, I wrapped the canvas in burlap and stapled it to the back.

Added upholstery tacks every inch and a half…

IMG_2742

Then, I measured and marked where I wanted the black art piece to lay on the canvas, and hung it into place over the tub.  Using canvas for this project is smart because the wood frame is made up of soft wood, allowing the staples and tacks to go in easily.

IMG_2747

No- the black piece is not centered. That’s the rebel in me.

IMG_2746

Oh, by the way…this black thingy used to be white. I worked a little magic on it too.

So since we are on the subject of art, here are a few simple canvas paintings needing to be added to my Etsy store. They are older designs, but have always been some of my top sellers.

Clever Ideas for the Kitchen

Somehow, I can never pass up a good kitchen idea book. They call to me…”Misti-you must have me. Please take me home!”

These are two of my favorites and they are loaded with fabulous ideas; plus, I got them for a steal!

clever12

$3.99 at the local grocery store. Soft-cover book, not a magazine.

clever13

$10.00 and free shipping from the Homestyle Book Club.

I want to share with you some of the clever ideas to bring style and whimsy to your kitchen. You may just find a great idea that you can use today!

Check out how they used this vintage metal piece on the island. I love how it adds texture and interest to the center of the room. We have cabinets on both of the larger sides of our island, but I think I could try this on the smaller sides…love this!

clever4 BHG Kitchen Ideas

This is a great way to display a collection of plates, tin pans, platters, artwork, photo frames, or my idea would be to display cookbooks. My hard-back cookbooks would add so much color to the room. If only I had more wall space!

Country Living 500 Kitchen Ideas

Another great way to display cookbooks. I have a weathered, red wooden toolbox that I keep a few of my most-used books handy by the stove. I change them out by the season too.

A screen door on the pantry will add a bit of country charm…

clever9

Country Living 500 Kitchen Ideas

This is my kitchen in another life…

I love the way they have used the vintage tool box for cooking oils and essentials.

clever3

Country Living again

Try this: Attach baling wire to the back splash for an interesting plate rack or spice rack. So clever.

clever2

BHG again

Need more storage space? Dress up inexpensive shelves with paint and fabric to create a one-a-kind masterpiece.

They have attached swing rods to the sides of the cabinets and added fabric for doors. Now that’s clever!

clever5

BHG again

Here is a practical and pretty way to house utensils. Insert cup hooks on the underside of the cabinet above the stove, hang a small curtain rod or metal pipe from fabric scraps or jute twine, bend a few forks over the rod (yes, look closer…those hooks are forks) then add utensils and pot holders. Voila!

clever8

BHG again…great book I tell you!

One more idea and it’s a doozie…

Make your own kitchen island with an old dresser!

clever10

BHG Kitchen Ideas

This is one of the coolest ideas ever! Goodwill has dressers for under $20 sometimes, or you may have one sitting in the basement and have been thinking about giving it to the next poor soul that needs it. Look at what paint and a few inexpensive accessories can do for your kitchen. They painted, added knobs, cup hooks, and a paper towel holder. The top is tiled, but there are many options for that too. I would love to have this with a stainless steel countertop. Just perfect for chopping and baking cookies!

Now look at the other side…GENIUS!

Perfect for keeping the little ones busy.

clever11

You could add a pre-made chalkboard or paint it right on the wood! Now that keeps the kids and Mama happy, right?

I will have more clever kitchen ideas very soon.

Have a great day everyone!

I Fought the Lawn and the…Lawn won.

A few weeks ago I had this great idea; I volunteered to take care of the grass this year for my husband. The boys are older and spending a few hours outside would do me good, right?

Let’s just say that I have a new appreciation for my husband’s grass cutting skills. It looked to be time consuming, but not so hard. Let me tell you…it’s a j-o-b!

IMG_2666

This is just the front. You should see the back and sides…

IMG_2669

I know-- doesn’t look like much, right? How hard could it be?

Meet our lawnmower. 12 years old, rigged beyond belief, 2 different sized wheels on the back, and duct taped, but still going.

IMG_2662

Poor little lawn mower…he tries so hard. Does his best to keep cutting after all the years of abuse. Never gets washed, or babied,  just cut, cut, cut. He hasn’t had the self-propel feature in years!

So anyway…it’s hilarious watching me stretched out to my tippy toes trying to make it move a few feet. There are many choice words flying around while I’m cutting. I fuss at it, then thank it for cranking AGAIN. The bag falls off every time I push too hard, or turn a corner, and there I am fussing and cussing. It makes great entertainment for the neighbors!

We have developed a love-hate relationship.

At first I hated the thought of cutting the grass; Just wanted to be the good wife and take on the challenge to save my husband precious weekend time at home with the family. Now, I almost look forward to it. You see, I am on a mission to lose 10 pounds. I’ll take a few more for good measure, but 10 pounds is my goal. So every few days (yes, it takes me several days to finish) I gear up, put on a happy face, and just envision the muscles building and the pounds falling off. I have already dropped one pants size!

Thank you crummy lawnmower!

Now I put all of my efforts into pushing this crazy mower. Suck it in, squeeze the buttocks, (like Forest Gump says) tighten the arms…I am shooting  for ROCK HARD by the end of summer!

Hopefully, my grass and my…. body will whipped into shape in no time!

IMG_2667

Maybe one day I can get Susan Lang over at Designing Your Dream Home to whip me up a sketch showing what an open front porch would look like. That’s our one thing that we didn’t get on this house…but I do LOVE it! My plans are to paint the garage door a soft brown to work with the surrounding stone and to add hinges and handles. As far as the front porch, I want it to go from the garage wall all the way to the right side of the house. No rails. Just nice and open so I can be nosy, watch the road, and drink coffee with my husband as we grow old together rocking on the porch. Sunday is our anniversary. Happy Anniversary to you Honey!

Have a great weekend everyone~
