All this time I have been looking for the perfect finish for my free-standing column, and then it hit me when I opened the newest BHG Flea Market style magazine!
Instead of finding the perfect paint treatment, all I need to do is sand it down and give some vintage style! How simple is that?
Here is my column hiding in the bathroom. I’m a bit afraid to bring it out into the family room yet. It is quite heavy and could do major damage to my young children.
The next picture gives me even more inspiration. This is exactly how mine would sit if I did decide to put it on the family room. We have a corner right beside a window; perfect for the column.
Did you see that great vintage urn full of moss? LOVE IT. I also love the farm table, the oil painting, and the slip-covered sofa.
Oh yeah, that bust thingy would never last in my house. Not a chance!
And…while I’m at it, I might as well do the same thing to my fireplace surround, right?
I think it would be perfect for the rustic style I’m going for.
Oh, and just for an update—(I am definitely needing that pessimist party from Melissa)
Still haven’t started the footboard project, but it will be SO cool when it’s done.
Those metal artwork things are still on the dining room floor.
And this wall still has not been painted a light suede brown.
Seems my ‘to-do’ list never ends. How about yours?
Have a great week!

Hi Misti, I love your columm! I haven't got around to making my list yet, maybe that's my problem.
Hope you're having a great summer!
Hey Patti at Caromel Colours (Fabulously Finished blog) has stuff you could use to "old-up" that column. Love it.
I want to steal that urn of mossy balls.
Ooooh, girl. Me too. Thought this weekend I have been working hard of crossing some things off of mine.
LOVE the weathered look of the column. That's going to look sweet in your room! Cant wait to see it. I have a bed redo project on my blog, maybe you can find some more inspiration there. Search Bed bench
BHG has a Flea Market style magazine, who knew.
My husband paint on the side if you ever don't want to do it your self.

I love the ideas. You could totally do it. I am always looking to add some more shabby to the casa. I just love the fire place. You should so copy the look. I like the fireplace mantle and the fact that it is just in a random wall not above a fire.
Oh I love the rustic look!
I have so many projects that I have started and need to finish. I got one that I will be doing tomorrow so that I can get it posted in time for Kimba's DIY day. That is my only motivation to get it finished.
The other projects...Well, um who knows when I will get to finish them!
I too love old columns. I have 2 in my sunroom leaning against the wall. They are leaning quite a bit so the kids don't knock them down. You could also attach L brackets to the wall and post so they wouldn't tip.
Love the inspiration photos you posted. Thanks!
The to-do's NEVER end.
I love chipped paint, but my husband would flip if I attacked our house with a sander. :) He can't stand it. haha!
That bust or column wouldn't make it in my house. My three year old is a danger to herself.
Great ideas for the column. I love the first picture.
Do NOT even make me count the hundreds of projects that need to be done! LOL I love all your ideas though :)
xo,

My "To Do List" has been a little upside down... buying lots of decor items, but don't even have the house yet (the OCEAN house!). Maybe just a little ahead of myself... but when inspiration strikes it can be a compulsion! Precisely why your blog can be a 'dangerous' place for me... but I could never resist it just the same. Ohhhhh... Those distressed columns... SEE... I didn't even know I NEED one of those until I read this post. Sigh...I wonder how many "To Do Lists" you've added to like you do mine...?? :-)
