Our Childhood Bedrooms: My first Linky Party!

As a child, I loved decorating just as much as I do today. My mother passed down this crazy decorating phenomenon to me very early on. I loved to change my wall color every few years, we even changed my bed 3 times before I moved out of the house. My first bed was a yellow four-poster bed, then we moved on to bunk beds for a few years, then on to my last bed that my mother still has in her guest room today. It is shown in the picture below.

I am the youngest of five children and THE ONLY GIRL.

img019 Needless to say, I was spoiled rotten and my mother loved changing my room as much as I did. Maybe it’s because I had too much stuff-people loved giving me things (because I was all cute back then) so we had to rearrange sometimes just to fit it all in!

img018

I wish that I had more pictures of my room. I actually had the master bedroom, which really wasn’t so “mastery” like the masters built today. My room did NOT have a bathroom attached, nor did it have a walk-in closet, and it probably only measured around 12x14 but it had the most room for all of my stuffed animals and girly things. In this picture ,you can’t tell but the room was painted a soft apple green. Good thing acid-free photo albums came along! My mother picked out all of my bedding, or else I am sure it would have been purple. Fourteen shades of purple to be exact!

img020

I had LOADS of stuffed animals…and they all had names. Funny, now that I am looking around, everything had a hat on it! What's up with that? I'm not a hat person...

Did you check out the Miss Piggy poster? Anyone else have that? I loved the Muppets!

img021

I had this bright yellow furniture throughout my time at “home”. I had the dresser and mirror and nightstand, and used to have the yellow four-poster bed, too. I remember taking off the bed finials and pretending to sing in them...shhhhh. I bet you did it too!

There was always a cat nearby….still true. At one time I had a Snoopy phone, see it on the nightstand? Then later I got a white princess phone (like Barbie’s) for a birthday present. I think I remember asking for my own phone line around that time, and I really wanted both phones in my room, but mother would not give in to that one. I did finally get a TV for my dresser when I was in senior high, it was passed down from one of my brothers, probably only like a 5 inch screen and I'm sure that the antenna took over most of my room--but I had a TV.

Since I can’t find anymore pictures, I thought I would share what else was in my room… A life-size poster of Shaun Cassidy!

shaun cassidyHe was the love of my life, and he hung on the wall in my room until my big brothers had the great idea to draw a mustache and beard on him—oh yeah, they colored in his teeth too! My poster had him smiling with a white jumpsuit on. They totally ruined Shaun. That’s my brothers for ya!

Let me ask….am I the only one who remembers Rex Smith? I have asked lately, and no one else seems to remember him! He was a one-hit wonder and he was hot! Wait…let me dig out his album…

He sang- You Take my Breath Away…remember now? Anyone? Anyone?

rex smith

As bad as I loathe posters in my boys’ rooms, I had them all over mine. I also had boxes under the bed that stored all of my Barbies, and there were stuffed animals to the ceiling.

I know I have made a big deal about my first link party and really don’t have all the pictures that I can remember so well in my head, but I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane. I am hoping you girls have more pictures than I do to share.

Please add your post to Mr. Linky below and be sure to link back to my blog to show off everyone else’s younger days as well.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for playing along. I hope I get to thank many people and I’m not the only one hanging out here : )

{{Big hugs}}

~Misti

I don't have pictures either but wish that I did. How fun that you are the only girl in a house full of boys! I came along in the teen years falling in love with Andrew Keegan and Jonathon Taylor Thomas! Wonder what happened to them??
Have a great day.

How fun to take a trip down memory lane! I didn't have any pictures and my parents are 1300 miles away, but I posted anyway. You'll get a very vivid picture of what our room looked like!! My sisters were both in love with Shaun Cassidy! My time it was NKOTB :) But my mom forbid us to have any posters on our wall! They were all in the "playroom" in the basement.

What a great idea! Thanks for hosting!

Girl, you caught me off guard. I was working with Mike yesterday & today too. I had to sneak an excuse to leave later than him today so I could do my post.

I remember Rex too. David Cassidy, wasn't he one of the Hardy Boys? I loved that show. Muppets on Sundays with my dad, good times. Wish I had more pics, most were destroyed.

Well, I'm off to work! Have a great day,

Jennifer

I grew up sharing a room with my sister and my mom wouldnt allow posters on the wall. We had lots of stuffed animals too. Holly Hobby pictures on the wall. I was a big Leif Garrett fan. I don't remember Rex. When I was a teenager I collected Unicorns. Had lots and lots of them. Eventually past them down to a friends daughter. I did put a poster of a duck and a chick on the back of my door. When I was in Art class at Riverdale I drew a sketch of that poster and got an A+ on it. I still have that drawing and plan to frame it and hang it in my sewing room one day. I enjoyed your blog. Love the pink bow in your hair. Have fun! Kim

I remember Rex Smith, what a blast from the past. I had Donny Osmond all over my room, sigh. I might have even had Shaun Cassidy, but for some reason I was more into Donny. LOL.

I would have LOVED to participate but I have no idea where my room photos are, or if I even have any of my earlier rooms. In our move, I have no idea where a lot of photos are, my mom might have those.

VERY fun post and great memories. The GNOME book, oh yes!

I saw on FB that you have a blog. I so remember your room and those dolls that are on your headboard! What were their names? Love your decorating!

Love all the old pics and memories. I really love that big ol bow in your head. You're southern, without a doubt!

Nope, don't recall the Cassidy boy or Rex Smith. As a teen, I covered the purple/yellow flowers wallpaperd wall (just one wall with wallpaper in that room) in our rent house with NKOTB posters.

Sarah- girl-you are so much younger than me! Jonathon Taylor Thomas...He is a cutie

Thanks for your awesome description Laura!

Jennifer- So glad you could save some pics! How awful about the house fire...

imagigi- I too loved unicorns and horses of all kinds. Leif was surely in my room somewhere, and I also had a Holly Hobby doll!

Melissa- I had the Donna and Marie dolls! Donnie was sooooooo awesome!

Kristie-I can't believe you really remember my room! So glad to see you here on my humble blog....those two on my headboard were named Fric and Frac, then UGA was on my bed, and I remember Penny was the name of the brown bear over by Kermit.

Laura- I was a bit old for NKOTB, but Marky Marc is quite hot these days in his movies. I would let him protect me anyday!

OH Misti!

Shaun Cassidy AND Parker Stevenson! My sister got Parker and I got Shaun. I remember the San Diego swapmeet with huge posters of them. I was so in love with Shaun. He would stare at me as I fell asleep. And, Rex...I do remember him a bit. My biggest hunky man was Rick Springfield when he was on General Hopsital as Dr. Noah Drake? I was so young and would watch that show behind my moms back. Oh the memories!!!! You put a huge smile on my face!

OK... I am feeling very guilty about not joining in on your linky party. Don't give up on me just yet.. I am still trying. I have no pics to share.... You were the only little girl with all those brothers. I know you were well taken care of when you were growing up. By the way.. I love Shawn Cassidy too. Dah Do Run...Run... I loved that song.

Hahahahah!!! I totally did the rock star thing with one of the posts on my bed!!!! Good to know I'm not the only one!!

I kind of remember Rex Smith. I'd probably recognize his song if I heard it, but as soon as I read the title, I thought of the Berlin song.

My childhood bedroom was lavender. All the bedding and the curtains and the bed canopy were lavender with tiny white dots. The curtains had white pompoms on them. I just recently found the valance -- brought back lots of memories :-)

How fun to think of childhood rooms. I don't have any pictures of mine really. I had the Gnome book too, and thought it was cool and strange. I hope I still have it somewhere. I remember there were naked gnomes in there. Strange!
And I loved Simon and Simon and Magnum. Was that too 80s? I lived in England in the 70s and only remember Sheena Easton and Abba.
Have fun!

Great post Misti! I would so participate but I have zero pic's of my childhood bedroom & live States away from my parents D:
It's interesting how those of us that are addicted to design, the addiction began as children! I will still never forget my "hot Pink" canisters that I thought were so cool for all my treasures. Hot pink was a new decor color & so "in". That & my 60's neon daisy sticker. Such fun memories.I was too old for Shaun & Rex, darn it. Thanks for visiting & commenting on my blog yesterday. I am thrilled. Still a newby & trying to get out there. Have a great weekend.

How funny. We have something in common with all the cats. Even my baby pictures have cats in them! It's still true today, there's always a cat around. :)

I won't let you hang out alone! I'm going to find some pictures of my kids' bedroom when they were small. I don't have any of my own. And I love Shaun Cassidy. He was on my wall too along with Parker Stevenson.

Hi Misti, I just finished my first week of work and I am completely exhausted. My brain hasn't had a workout like this past week in quite some time. I am sad to say I don't have a single picture of my bedroom growing up. I can remember how my sister and I decorated it back then. Actually, my sis was the decorator and I was the seamstress. We had olive green and torquoise checked bedspreads and antique twin beds. My sister decorated a bulliten board with olive green pompom fringe. She collected photos out of House Beautiful and Architechtural Digest for an inspiration book. We grew up with a mother that was forever rearranging the furniture and dragging stuff home that needed to be upholstered and refinsed. My interest in design came much later in life, after my sister passed away. I love the pictures of you and your brothers! You must have been quite the princess!

I actually saw Shaun Cassidy in concert and wore a satin jacket similar to the ones he wore. My bedroom was covered with posters from Teen Beat & Tiger Beat of him as well as Rex Smith. Both took my breath away. Such teen fantasies. Thanks for reliving them here for us.

What a fun idea! I wish I had photographs of my childhood bedroom. The furniture was Queen Anne, and the fabrics were royal blue velveteen and white eyelit. I loved it, but for some reason and tragically, I have no photographs. Thanks for the fun trip down memory lane! ~Arleen
