Craft Time: A Cheesy Green Idea

Edited 4/24: Wendy at The Shabby Nest is having a Frugal Friday link party, be sure to check out all of the other great ideas!

Happy Sunday to everyone! With all of my new-found studying going on around here, I am having serious craft withdrawals!

A few weeks ago I made cheese dip and thought of a simple idea to recycle my cheese block box. Thus, the “Cheesy Green” idea.

I have several projects going on right now to fix my craft withdrawal symptoms, but I’ll show you my box craft first:

IMG_2507

First clean the box- see the cheese stuck to the side? Yeah…clean that. Then…do you see that left over wallpaper? Recognize the pattern?????

IMG_2504Yep! That’s Queensland wallpaper to match my never-ending, won’t –go- away fabric in the house. I have several rolls hanging out the basement. I could open a store with the things down there!

Anyway, wrap the box in wallpaper scraps, scrapbook paper, wrapping paper or anything else you might have lying around…tape it up and done! Your “almost in the trash” cheese box becomes and nifty organizer for your pens/pencil stash. It tidies up the junk drawer….

IMG_2510 Check out the chewed up scissors…my dog did it.

IMG_2509

How about tidying up the makeup drawer?

IMG_2523Perfect for my lipsticks

IMG_2514

What will you do with all those tubes of medicine?

IMG_2512

How about a handy place for the cell phone and charger?

IMG_2511

I am really on a roll here… too much studying makes Misti need a craft project.

IMG_2519

Now you can have a place to store those odd kitchen items like chop sticks and corn holders.

You can thank me later….

Your corn will thank you.

So will your Chinese food.

IMG_2516It also makes a great gift box. You could wrap the top and add some specialty coffees. My mom always gives us great coffee.

I don’t have a picture…but, how cute would it be to wrap up a few chocolate bars for a friend having a “chocolate and Alanis” kind of day. See here for that post

IMG_2520Okay—I’m done. I could see this staying in the same cabinet alongside the coffee mugs. This is my last idea. I’m sure there are a thousand more things you could use this for.

Just trying to do my part with the “green thing”.

So, the moral of the story is…don’t throw things out without first thinking of other ways to use it. Something as simple as a cheese box can be used in so many ways!

THIS THURSDAY: I want to have my first Link Party! Will you all please indulge me with photos and descriptions of your bedrooms from the past? Like really in the past…your childhood rooms! Don’t leave me hanging girls…I am terrified of having a link party all by myself! THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be here! (please).

On another note… Come back soon to see my other projects in the works and tomorrow Susan Lang of Designing your Dream Home will announce her giveaway winner over at her place. She will also be adding her Mistakes to Avoid- Patios, Porches, and Decks post. Thanks so much for those of you that gave Susan such a generous welcome!

Have a great week,

~Misti

This is a great idea Misti. I am always astounded at over packaging anyway. We throw so many little boxes out on a regular basis. I have some of those little ugly plastic drawer thingys for my pens and pencils in my office, and also some holding my lipsticks and stuff in the bathroom. I like your idea because I hate plastic containers of any kind. It's not cheesy..it's great! Yuck green cheese. You must have been looking in my refrigerator.

Your dog chewed them?? Mmmm hmmmm, I've heard that one before. ;)

Great idea though! I love trying to repurpose stuff like that. But I'd probably just use it as-is, without cute paper. I'll think of this next time.

I'd love to join in your party!! But I don't know if I have pictures to show. Maybe some really good describing words??? I'll check to see if I can find anything.

Have a great day!

HI Misti!

The childhood bedroom sounds fun. And a bit embarrassing, but I am always game to poke some fun at myself.
However, I will be out of town without computer access on Thursday. What time will you have your Mr Linky up and will it be up on Thursday or late Wed? If Wed I will chime in too, but if Thursday I will not be able to link. Let me know.

THis cheese box, is anything but cheesy! Girl, you are one clever and crafty girl! The possibilities are endless. I never would've thought of it! Thanks!

Hi Lady! Love this idea (it would be perfect for my Frugal Friday linky party - do hope you'll link up...please.) I will definitely try to be part of your party on Thursday....I'm off to see if I can locate some old photos of my bedroom. ha!

Misti, you are too funny girl! On behalf of my Chinese Food and corn - thank you thank you thank you! Whatever would I do without my creativity-sharing blog friends. I hope I never find out. I just got some old wallpaper this weekend at a yard sale not knowing what the heck I was gonna do with it, but just liking the pattern, and now I know! Of course that will have to take a backseat to my never-ending list of projects. I will SO be joining your linky party on Thursday. Can't wait to tell my mom - she'll get such a kick outta THAT!

Oh misti I love this idea. I love the one for the sweet-n-low packs. Mine currently are in a glass container and sometimes you have to take it and shakem out. It bugs the mess out of my husband. This is now on my list of to do's. I also love the one for gift giving with the tissue and coffee packs in it. That is such a cute idea and hey you're recycling. I have one for you. My daughter burns alot of CD's so I had a empty CD spool. I figured out that I can put my spools of ribbon on it. I can get like 4 or 5 spools on it and use the clear plastic top to keep the dust off and see the ribbon. Cheesy ideas that work.

What a cute idea. I love it and we are a big Velveeta fan. I think I will have to save the boxes and use them for organizers.

Thanks for the idea.

Hi Misti, getting creative as usual I see!!

Don't fear the linky party. I just had one and I only have 15 followers, ha ha. You'll have a big ole party. It will be fun. I'll be there in all my Duran Duran glory.

Hi Misti,
Thank you for the invite to your Mr Linky party!
What a creative idea.
I don't have a single childhood bedroom photo though...My parents live in Florida.

Your cheese box idea is genius. It's so pretty too!

I really appreciate your kind words on our dining room. The hardest part was taking the fixture down to put the medallion in.
My hubby grumbled a little bit but even he liked the look of it after.
I do hope you add one soon.

Your blog is a great inspiration and I'll be back to visit you often.

Have a blessed week.

I forgot to tell you I love your Red coffee cups!
I have set of the same dishes from Target.
They are covered with chips on the edges of some of the plates and they are still my favs. :)

I don't know how I missed this post, but I did. I have wallpaper left over and never thought to use it to cover boxes, but it's a great idea. My bathroom drawers could really use some organizing!

A chocolate and Alanis kind of day!! I love that! I can totally tell you are my age by that reference.

I'm just now starting to figure out how to re-use all the packaging that comes into our house. Clever use of the cheese boxes. :)

Know what I love about your project? It's not based on Target or any other American store.
We moved to Germany from the US, and it's just not possible to find things everyone gushes about in the US. So I love what you've done. And yes - we're totally going to do it, too!

Love it! I am always thinking about doing this with diaper boxes to store toys in my kid's closets, but I've never gotten around to doing it. Go you!

I love the "reuse" part you focused on. Going green never looked so good!

LOL - I thought I was the only woman on the planet with guilt whenever I threw those Velveeta boxes away!! I used them religiously to hold frozen breast milk (frozen flat in plastic bottle liners) and they worked FAB-O!!

Nice to see that they STILL have a use, even when after my breastfeeding stage!
